Bicol student wins in 10th ASEAN Quiz National Competition; Top 3 to represent PH in Myanmar

MANILA – A student from Donsol National Comprehensive High School in Sorsogon bested 15 other students to emerge as the overall champion in the 10th ASEAN Quiz National Competition held at the PTV studios Thursday, May 19.

Armela Persia, who represented the Bicol Region, walked away with a cash prize of P50,000 after three question-and-answer rounds on ASEAN general information. The second spot went to NCR’s Brian James Cerdeña, while third place went to Key Calpito of Region 2.

Cerdeña and Calpito went home with P30,000 and P20,000 in cash prizes, respectively. The students also earned plaques of appreciation for their coaches and trophies for their schools, as well as four-year scholarship grants from STI College.

Persia, Cerdeña, and Calpito will represent the country at the 10th ASEAN Quiz Regional Competition happening late this year in Myanmar.

Staged every two years and hosted by the different Member-Countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, the ASEAN Quiz aims to foster the spirit of healthy competition among ASEAN youth. Student-participants also get a chance to immerse themselves in the culture of the host-country in a special day tour attached to the event.

Catch the delayed telecast of the 10th ASEAN Quiz National Competition on PTV and its provincial stations on June 4, with a replay on June 5.

The ASEAN Quiz is a project of the ASEAN Committee on Culture and Information and the People’s Television Network, in partnership with the Department of Foreign Affairs, the Department of Education, the Presidential Communications Operations Office, Philippine Information Agency, and Radyo Pilipinas.  (PR)
