Big waves affect livelihood of Bataan fishermen

BAGAC, Bataan — Typhoon “Rosita” (Yutu) caused big and turbulent waves at the West Philippine Sea on Tuesday, affecting the livelihood of fishermen in this coastal town of Bataan.

Kevin Magsundo of Barangay Pag-asa said the waves started getting big Monday night so no one among the fishermen in their village ventured out into the sea.

Fishing boats were placed on high ground at the shore.

“Walang hanapbuhay, walang kita. Gutom! (No source of livelihood, no income. Hungry!),” Magsundo said when asked on the effect of inclement weather on their lives.

He said he tied with rope the roofing of his hut for protection against strong winds.

Bataan, which was placed under storm signal No. 1, experienced intermittent light rains on Tuesday.
