Bill seeking to protect delivery riders filed

A bill seeking to protect service delivery riders has been filed by Senator JV Ejercito to penalize booking scams.

In a statement, Ejercito said he filed Senate Bill. No. 1234 or the Delivery Riders Protection.

The bill, he noted, aims to “protect individuals engaged in food, grocery, and pharmacy delivery services.”

“Incidentally, I filed a bill that will protect online sellers, delivery courier riders from pranksters and scams,” Ejercito continued.

“Because of the booming online business, we’ve seen the rise of online pranksters victimizing our delivery riders,” he added.

He also expressed optimism that the passage of the bill would help safeguard delivery riders in their everyday work.

The bill prohibits using people’s information, cancelation of confirmed orders, hoax orders, and refusing to pay for unpaid orders.

Those who violate the prohibition may be sentenced to up to six months in prison and/or imposed a fine not exceeding P100,000.
