BIR files P15-M tax raps vs. 3 bizmen

MANILA — The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) filed separate tax evasion complaints before the Department of Justice (DOJ) on Wednesday against three businessmen for failing to pay taxes amounting to PHP15 million.

The BIR accused respondents as Jose Dyquiangco Jr., Wilson Gabuten Tan, and Lemuel Sibuma Consolacion of willful failure to pay taxes under Section 255 of the National Internal Revenue Code of 1997.

The BIR said collection notices have been served to the respondents but neither have paid nor protested.

“The respondents’ obstinate failure and continued refusal to pay their long overdue deficiency taxes, despite repeated demands, constitute willful failure to pay the taxes due to the government,” the BIR said in a statement Wednesday.

The BIR said Dyquiangco, who is a soft drinks dealer based in San Fernando City, La Union, has total deficiency tax liability for taxable year 2007 amounting to PHP9,312,001.59.

Tan, who is engaged in tobacco trading and is based on Cabugao, Ilocos Sur, has a total deficiency income tax liability for taxable year 2009 amounting to PHP2,769,015.24.

Consolacion, who is the sole proprietor of La Union-based pharmaceutical products supplier North Med Enterprise, is liable to pay an estimated aggregate deficiency Value Added Tax (VAT) liability totaling PHP3,469,678.71 from 2015 to 2016.

Consolacion was also charged with deliberate failure to pay tax on 2015 and 2016 in violation of Section 254 of the Tax Code. (PNA)
