Blood demand up in Pangasinan

DAGUPAN CITY — The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) – Pangasinan Chapter noted a sudden rise in the demand for blood in the province, mainly due to various diseases acquired during the rainy season.

In an interview Monday, Blood and Services chairman Maria Theresa Peralta of PRC-Pangasinan, said their office is coordinating with various organizations and groups to collect sufficient amounts of blood donations.

“Thirty to 40 people, on average, come to our office daily to ask for blood bags,” Peralta said, noting a spike in dengue cases in the province.

To meet the demand, PRC-Pangasinan plans to collect 200 bags for each blood component, she added.

Department of Health Undersecretary Rolando Domingo earlier said that clustered cases of dengue were recorded in Pangasinan, resulting in a 90-percent increase.

“This is the reason why we need more blood donors to join us in our blood-letting activities,” Peralta said. (Ahikam Pasion/PNA)
