‘Blue Alert’ status up in Calabarzon as ‘habagat’ drench the region

CALAMBA CITY, Laguna Aug. 3 (PNA) –- Blue alert status has been raised by the Calabarzon Office of Civil Defense (OCD) and Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) amid flooding and continuous rains induced by the southwest monsoon or “habagat” affecting the region.

OCD4A (Calabarzon) Regional Director and RDRRMC Chair Olivia Luces reported that all national roads and bridges within the region remain passable and all ports continue normal operations with no untoward incidents monitored.

She also said the OCD-RDRRMC Calabarzon is continuously monitoring and coordinating the situation.

Various DRMMOs and agencies have been alerted on their logistical and budgetary requirements in preparation for the effects of the monsoon rains.

Luces has asked the units to send advisories and announcements via social media such as Facebook and Twitter and SMART info board.

OCD Operations Center and local operations command center remain activated 24/7 for continuing updates especially on suspension of classes, inundation and impassable roads.

Local DRRMOs are also advised to monitor landslide prone areas in Cainta and the reported landslide on a road side ravine in San Mateo, Rizal.

Since Wednesday, the DPWH District 1 was requested for the immediate inspection of national road along Sitio Parugan and Dalig National High School regarding the flooding incident.

There were no untoward incidents or casualties monitored.

Classes remain suspended upon orders of local government units (LGUs) on Thursday in all levels in public and private schools in Cavite City and in the towns of Tanay, Taytay, Cainta, Cardona and Antipolo City in Rizal province.

The towns of Baras, Binangonan and Teresa all in Rizal province have suspended classes from pre-school to high school.

As of Thursday morning, parts of Taytay are in gutter-deep floodwater.

State weather bureau PAGASA said occasional heavy rains induced by the southwest monsoon or “habagat” will continue to drench the region on Thursday.

It said heavy rains with lightning and strong winds due to thunderstorms are expected over Batangas, Laguna, Quezon within the next three hours.

The weather conditions are also experienced in Rizal province and portions of Cavite which may persist for one to two hours.

Light to moderate rains will affect Batangas towns of San Juan, Rosario, Taysan and Lobo, which may persist within two hours and may affect nearby areas.(Saul E. Pa-a/PNA)
