DUMAGUETE CITY – With still six months before the end of the year, the Bureau of Customs (BOC) sub-port office here has already collected more than PHP2.3 billion, mostly from importation duties and taxes.

The amount represents about 60 percent of the office’s target collection for 2019 pegged at PHP3.8 billion, Fe Lluelyn G. Toring, Dumaguete Customs Collector said in an interview Monday.

“We are pleased with the outcome of our revenue collections in line with the administration’s mandate to double our efforts to increase the collection of duties and taxes from importers and from other sources as well,” she added.

The actual collection from Jan. 1 to June 17, this year “is way above the target collection for the first semester (January to June) at PHP 1.68 billion, or an excess of PHP234 million plus,” Toring said.

The Dumaguete Customs Office has until the end of December to collect the remaining PHP1.49 billion plus, she added.

Toring is optimistic that they will be able to achieve their target or even surpass it, considering that in the coming weeks, they are expecting a number of importation shipments.

Filoil Energy Co., Inc. is still the leading contributor to the Dumaguete sub-port’s positive gains, with increasing volumes of petroleum products being imported to supply Dumaguete and Negros Oriental and other areas, Toring said.

Other importers here include DUCOMI for palm olein and Pryce Gas for liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).

Toring attributed the gains of her office to hardworking staff.
