BOC seizes PhP 60M worth of smuggled items

The Bureau of Customs (BOC) seized almost PhP 60 million worth of smuggled cigarettes at the Manila International Container Port.

The cargo came from China and was initially declared as cartons, furniture, and bags. Upon inspection, the agency discovered 500 cases and more than 1,000 boxes of smuggled cigarettes shoved in between other items. Aside from these, the BOC also found undeclared liquor and sex toys.

The consignee is now facing charges for violation of Customs Modernization and Tariff Act and National Tobacco Administration and Bureau of Internal Revenue guidelines and regulations. – Report from Mark Fetalco
