BOC Subic destroys assorted brands of counterfeit cigarettes

The Bureau of Customs (BOC) Port of Subic condemned assorted brands of counterfeit cigarettes with an estimated market value of Php 38 million on April 19.

The 1×40’ container shipment consigned to Subic Red Dragon which arrived at the Port last year was seized and forfeited by the Port for violation of National Resolution No. 079-2005 and Sec. 155 of RA 8293 or the Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines, concerning Section 1113 (f) of Republic Act. No. 10863 or the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act after the shipment was found to contain counterfeit cigarettes and clothing against its declaration of assorted textiles.

The condemnation was conducted in an accredited facility located at Marilao, Bulacan owned by Malia 7 Waste Collection Services through incineration to ensure 100% destruction of the said counterfeit goods. It was attended by representatives coming from BOC-Assessment and Operations Coordination Group, Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority, Department of Trade and Industry, Japan Tobacco International, and PMFTC.

District Collector Maritess T. Martin assured the public that the Port will remain vigilant in protecting the country’s borders against the proliferation of illicit goods. (BOC) – gb
