BOI OKs P820-M oleochemicals plant in Batangas

MANILA — The Board of Investments (BOI) has approved the PHP820-million investment of Balayan Bay Batangas Development, Inc. (BBBDI) for an oleochemicals plant within the Phoenix Petrochemicals and Industrial Park in Calaca, Batangas.

BBBDI’s manufacturing plant will be producing linear alkylbenzene sulfonate (LABS), coconut fatty alcohol sulfate (CFAS), and sodium lauryl ether sulfate (SLES) with a total sulfonation capacity of 40,000 metric tons (MT) annually.

LABS, CFAS, and SLES are used in the production of laundry detergent and personal care items such as toothpaste, soap bars, shower cream, shampoo, among others.

“Fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) local manufacturers of home and personal care and cleaning products together with the upstream oleochemicals industry stands to greatly benefit from this project since the products to be produced by BBBDI will serve as a cost-efficient substitution to previously imported oleochemicals,” Trade Undersecretary and BOI Managing Head Ceferino Rodolfo said.

“Local produce means shorter order-to-delivery lead time, better quality, better pricing and more flexibility,” Rodolfo added.

He added that BBBDI’s project boosts the oleochemicals production in the country.

BBBDI’s plant started its operation in October, employing 102 personnel.
