Brgy. Captain, staff in online meeting scandal resign

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) is now investigating the recent incident involving a barangay captain and treasurer engaged in sexual activity during a Zoom meeting.

DILG Undersecretary for Barangay Affairs Martin Diño disclosed that the said official and staff of Brgy. Fatima Dos, Dasmariñas, Cavite have already resigned. He is now waiting for the copy of the resignation letters.

Authorities said that aside from engaging in lewdness during an online conference, the conduct of the such activity inside the barangay hall is unacceptable.

“Kung tatanungin mo kung anong pwedeng isampa nating kaso diyan, conduct unbecoming of an elected at saka appointed barangay official (If you will ask what the charges are to be filed against them, [it is] conduct unbecoming of an elected and appointed barangay official),” Diño said.

“Pagkatapos niyan, pwede namang file-an ng criminal ‘yan ng asawa ‘nung treasurer, saka ‘yung asawa ng kapitan (After that, criminal charges can be filed by the spouses of the treasurer and captain),” he added.

He is also seeking to determine whether the funds of the barangay were misused.

Diño reminded elected and appointed officials that “public service is a public trust.” “At saka dapat magiging modelo ng barangay ay siempre, ang mga barangay official. Hindi pwede ‘yung ganyang mga private ay dadalhin niyo sa barangay hall (Barangay officials should be the role models of the barangay. Such private matters should not be brought to the barangay hall),” he warned. – Report from Patrick de Jesus
