Brightest students face off in 10th ASEAN quiz national competition

Manila, Philippines – Sixteen (16) of the country’s best and brightest youth compete for a chance to represent the Philippines in the 10th and final staging of the ASEAN Quiz to be held in Myanmar later this year.

The National Competition Philippines, which will be held on May 19 at the Studio A of the People’s Television Network, and hosted by PTV news anchors Joee Guilas and Naomi Tiburcio, will gather 16 Grade 9 and Grade 10 students from different regions across the country in a test of knowledge on ASEAN general information and history.

The top three winners will take home a total of P100,000 in cash prizes, as well as trophies and plaques of appreciation for their respective schools and coaches. More importantly, they will get a chance to fly to Myanmar to compete with their counterparts from the other ASEAN Member States at the regional levels in the latter part of the year.

Organized every two years and hosted by the different ASEAN Member States since 2002, the ASEAN Quiz brings together youth from all over the Region in a friendly competition to deepen their understanding and awareness of ASEAN issues.

In the Philippines, the ASEAN Quiz is hosted by the People’s Television Network (PTV), in partnership with the National ASEAN Committee on Culture and Information (ASEAN COCI PH), the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), the Department of Education (DepEd), the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO), the Philippine Information Agency (PIA), and the Philippine Broadcasting Service (PBS).

“We’re happy to be finally holding the ASEAN Quiz after the Philippines withdrew from the 2020 Regional Competition in Singapore due to COVID-19,” shares PTV General Manager Katherine de Castro – Chairperson of the Organizing Committee for the event. “Through this activity, we are able to celebrate our ASEAN youth and foster a greater sense of solidarity within our community of nations.”

The 10th ASEAN Quiz National Competition will be aired on PTV and its provincial stations nationwide on June 4, with a replay on June 5. Check out www.ptvnews.ph and PTV’S official social media platforms for broadcast schedules and updates.
