The Department of Education (DepEd) is set to meet incoming education secretary and Vice President-elect Sara Duterte-Carpio’s team on June 20 to 30 for the transition period.
“Mayroon kaming exchange of texts and letters at ang usapan ay between June 20 and 30 ay i-reserve namin iyan for the transition period. So ang aming agreement ay si VP Sara, mag-select siya ng kaniyang transition team; kami naman ay may handa na kaming transition team, ”DepEd secretary Leonor Briones said.
“Pero kailangan ding mag-one-on-one kaming dalawa ni VP Sara, ni incoming Secretary Sara, para ma-brief din siya sa mga iba’t ibang challenges at issues na hinaharap ng DepEd,” she added.
In the May 30 Laging Handa briefing, Briones wished the next DepEd administration to continue their education programs, including the Alternative Learning System (ALS), Last Mile Schools programs, the review and update of the K-12 curriculum, and implementation of blended learning.
The ALS is a parallel learning system that gives opportunities for out-of-school youths and adults to complete basic education, while the Last Mile Schools refer to schools built in remote areas.
“We are looking forward, hopefully, with great hopes for continuity of the programs that are working very well. We are looking forward to a discussion of our medium-term plan, kasi ang plano nga natin ay tatlong taon, anim na taon,” she said.
“Pero mayroon tayong plan na up to the year 2030 at saka I am very, very sure na open naman ang mind ng incoming secretary of education natin,” she added.
Briones considered the education programs of President Rodrigo Duterte as part of his legacy. – ag
