The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) toured local and foreign journalists aboard BRP Teresa Magbanua (MRRV-9701) on Feb. 11, 2026, as part of the Southeast Asia Maritime Media Visits Program (SEAMMVP).
The 97-meter BRP Teresa Magbanua is one of the largest multi-role response vessels in the PCG fleet and plays an important role in deterring illegal fishing, smuggling, and other unauthorized activities in Philippine waters.
Commissioned on May 6, 2022, the vessel has conducted 108 operations in support of anti-trafficking efforts and compliance with international maritime regulations. It has also carried out 24 missions addressing marine pollution and monitoring marine protected areas.
In addition, the ship responded to four search and rescue operations and undertook 12 humanitarian missions, transporting relief goods and personnel to disaster-affected communities. The PCG said the vessel has completed 159 specialized training sessions locally and abroad covering navigation, search and rescue, firefighting, and maritime law enforcement.
During the tour, journalists were given access to key areas of the vessel, including the navigation bridge, to better understand its operational capabilities.
The five-day SEAMMVP, funded by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in collaboration with La Trobe University, aims to deepen journalists’ understanding of regional maritime security through direct exposure and engagements with Philippine officials and maritime experts.
Twelve journalists are participating in the program, including five from the Philippines, three from Indonesia, three from Vietnam, and one from Malaysia.
