BSP rolls out Knowledge Resource Network at GenSan library

GENERAL SANTOS CITY — The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) has partnered with the city government for the expansion in the area of its innovative Knowledge Resource Network (KRN).

BSP and the local government formally signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on Wednesday morning for the rollout of the KRN through the city public library.

City Mayor Ronnel Rivera signed the agrement on behalf of the city government and deputy regional director, lawyer Thelma Pantig, for the BSP.

Pantig said the KRN is an information and knowledge sharing initiative that aims to enhance the public’s understanding on the BSP’s functions, programs and activities.

It seeks to help educate residents on economic and financial concepts and issues and empower them to contribute more meaningfully to economic development, she said.

Under the program, BSP will set up a Knowledge Resource Collection at the city library that will house updated BSP publications such as books, reports, guides, manuals, primers and brochures.

It will also provide access to online publications and research assistance services that will be made available for free.

Rivera lauded the BSP for choosing and partnering with the city as among its expansion sites for the KRN.

“This will enable our constituents to learn more what the BSP has been doing,” he said during the MOU signing.

Aside from the regular public users, the mayor said they would extend the use of the KRN to city personnel.

In a project briefer, BSP said it “envisions KRN to be a catalyst for economic development by empowering the public to make informed and better economic and financial decision through easy access to information and services.”

It said the program involves the: setting up of a BSP Resource Collection in each partner library where agency publications would be displayed.

BSP will train its partner librarians to maximize the use of information resources and facilitate resource sharing.

The agency will specifically provide free updated BSP publications, signage and BSP logo for the resource collections, conduct free training/briefing sessions on online publications.

It will also conduct research/statistical databases available on its website, and provide reference and research service assistance to partner libraries on subjects related to economics and finance. (PNA)
