CITY OF MALOLOS, Bulacan — The provincial government of Bulacan, through the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), will hold various fire safety and prevention activities in line with its observance of Fire Prevention Month this March.

Governor Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado on Thursday said the PDRRMO conducts these activities yearly to teach preparedness and right response to emergencies such as fire.

He encouraged residents to follow fire safety and prevention tips not only during the Fire Prevention Month but all throughout the year.

“It is important that we take note and do not forget the tips that were given to us,” Alvarado said, adding that these tips will help save lives and properties.

He added that in times of emergency, the public may call 911 or the Bulacan Rescue emergency hotline 7910566 for immediate response.

The Office of Civil Defense and PDDRMO also reminded the public to ensure that their fire alarms and sprinkler work, practice the evacuation plan and participate in fire drills, turn off liquefied petroleum gas or LPG tanks when not in use, hire an electrician to check on electrical wirings, unplug appliances and gadgets after using or charging, not leave lighted candles and cigarettes unattended, and to teach children about fire safety and using a fire extinguisher.

The activities will kick off on March 1 with a motorcade within this city to be participated in by officers and personnel of the Bureau of Fire Protection, city and municipal DRRMOs and rescue teams from local government units (LGUs).

Other activities include orientation on comprehensive emergency program for children, advanced firefighting training for Bulacan Rescue, Rescue M.A.R.C.H. (Mass Assembly for Rescue and Care for Humanity), Bulacan Challenge on March 23, and the month-long dissemination of information education and communication materials that will provide Bulakenyos with tips about fire safety and prevention.

This year’s Fire Prevention Month theme is “Ligtas na Pilipinas ating Kamtin, Bawat Pamilya ay Sanayin, Kaalaman sa Sunog ay Palawakin (Let us aim for a safe Philippines, teach each family on fire prevention)”.
