CA junks Ressa’s travel request

The Court of Appeals has junked the request of Rappler CEO Maria Ressa to travel to the United States of America.

In the decision brought down by CA Special 14th division, Ressa has allegedly failed to prove that her travel is urgent.

Ressa is scheduled to attend different activities in the USA for the documentary, “A Thousand Cuts.” She is set to receive the Press Freedom Award in Washington, D.C.

According to the Appellate Court, Ressa can still exercise her responsibility as a media practitioner through video conferencing and other technology. She can still participate in the theatrical release of the film without flying out of the Philippines.

Ressa was reminded that she was found guilty of Cyber libel by the Manila Regional Trial Court. The decision has been appealed with the CA.

Based on the initial decision of the Supreme Court, the court must be more careful in allowing an individual who was found guilty even if the sentence is not yet final. – Report from Kenneth Paciente
