CAAP employees drug tests yield negative result

MANILA — Employees of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) who took random drug tests from February to September this year yielded negative result.

CAAP spokesperson Eric Apolonio told the Philippine News Agency (PNA) Tuesday that of the 6,056 CAAP employees, 2,635 were subjected to the random drug test.

“CAAP shouldered the random drug tests for airline in-flight crew, and all of them tested negative,” he said.

These in-flight crew members were those who arrived in the airports, where the random drug tests were conducted. The tests were held in 21 out of the 81 airports being managed by CAAP nationwide.

CAAP ensures the regular conduct of random drug testing among its employees in line with President Rodrigo Duterte fight against illegal drugs.

CAAP’s Office of the Flight Surgeon and Aviation Medicine conducted the random drug testing.

Meanwhile, Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) Media Affairs Division head Jess Martinez said all MIAA regular and contractual employees also undergo drug tests regularly.

“We do it yearly, even on those who have been employed here for 30 years,” he said.

At present, there are about 4,000 MIAA employees, including contractuals.

Those who tested positive in the previous drug tests were terminated. (Ma. Cristina Arayata/PNA)
