CAAP ready for passenger influx on ‘Undas’

MANILA — The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) said that all the airports it manages are ready for the anticipated influx of passengers when Filipinos visit the graves of their departed loved ones in the nation’s observance of “Undas” or All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day on Nov. 1 and 2, respectively.

“For the last five years, we had an average of 7-10 percent increase in the number of passengers using both the domestic and international airports in the country,” spokesperson Eric Apolonio told the Philippine News Agency (PNA) on Friday.

CAAP manages 81 airports, he said.

Data from CAAP showed 5,405,889 domestic and international passengers used the country’s airports in November 2017. More than 3,397,000 of these passengers were from the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) alone.

Added security will be implemented to ensure safe and convenient operations, Apolonio said.

Medical teams will also be deployed and help desks will be set up at the airports, he added.

Meanwhile, CAAP has coordinated with the Office for Transport Security and the Aviation Security Group to provide better surveillance and baggage screenings.

It has also coordinated with the airlines to ensure swift processes at their check-in counters. (Ma. Cristina Arayata/PNA)
