The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) clarified on Monday, June 5, that Fr. Winston Cabading is not under investigation by CBCP, its official said.

“Cabading is a Dominican priest of good standing and is not under any censure or investigation by the [CBCP],” CBCP Secretary General Msgr. Bernardo Pantin said in a letter obtained by PTV Digital.

CBCP issued the certificate of good standing for Cabading on May 31.

The Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 81 rescheduled the arraignment of Cabading to Aug. 1. due to a pending appeal at the Department of Justice.

Cabading, an exorcist of the Archdiocese of Manila, was arrested on May 13 “for offending religious feelings.”

This after retired justice Harriet Demetriou, a devout Catholic and Marian devotee, filed a case against the priest for allegedly violating Article 133 of the Revised Penal Code.

The case was in connection to Cabading’s statement in a radio interview on the authenticity of the controversial 1948 Lipa Apparitions of Our Lady of Mediatrix.

Cabading posted bail and was freed on provisional liberty on May 15.

If convicted, he could face up to two years and four months in prison.
