Cabanatuan City villagers send help to Mayon victims

CABANATUAN CITY, Nueva Ecija — City residents here donated relief goods to the families affected by the Mayon volcano eruption.

The unknown number of gift packs, each containing four kilos of rice, four pieces of noodles, two sardines, four pieces of 3-in-1 coffee and eco-bag full of clothes, were delivered by the officials of Barangay Pagas here, led by their chairman Christopher Lee to Camalig, Albay on Wednesday.

There were also brand new slippers and biscuits for the children and some 43 pieces of clothes to affected teachers.

The group of volunteers on board several vans left the city on Tuesday, 30 January and came back here only before dawn of Saturday.

The trip led by Lee and his fellow leaders and volunteers took 16 hours each way to come back after distributing the goods to recipients.

Lee said they were accompanied by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and some local officials during distribution in Camalig evacuation centers.

The gifts packs were donations from relatives, friends, members of the local tricycle operators and drivers association (TODA) and the Catholic-based Daughters of Mary Immaculate International (DMII) in this city.

Lee thanked those who shared their resources and said this once again proved that “practicing charity was never a duty but a joy.” (PNA)
