CABUYAO CITY, Laguna — City Mayor and lawyer Rommel A. Gecolea has directed all city hall employees to undergo moral and spiritual values formation training and avail of the moral recovery program so they could effectively and efficiently serve the city’s constituents and the public.

Gecolea initiated the training program on “Transformation and Integration of Values and Vision for Public Service Training and Development” for all city hall workers as part of his thrust on values formation and ethical standards.

“I want that our local government workers to be hard-working, pro-people, efficient, respectful and God-fearing,” Gecolea said.

The training program covered spiritual enrichment, professionalism and a re-orientation on the code of conduct and ethical standards for civil servants.

Among those who are undertaking the values and moral recovery program since last month until May 30 are the city’s street sweepers.

“I take pride in our street sweepers that I now refer to as “environmental police” because they are instrumental for Cabuyao’s award as cleanest public market in Laguna,” Gecolea added.

Gecolea has since directed city officials to embark on trainings on youth development, values formation, education support through scholarships and the alternative learning system as key factors in sustaining the city’s claim as Laguna’s “Enterprise City” and “City of Transformation.”

City Public Information Office head Antonette Aranzanso said employees from various city hall departments and service units were obliged to undertake the orientations, briefings and inspiring lectures by the mayor and motivational speakers in batches per sessions, since mid-April until the end of this month.

Yen Bautista, a participant from the budget and accounting office told the Philippine News Agency that the training was a good opportunity for city hall workers to know what public service is all about and how the training could instill discipline in their ranks.

The city’s values formation training program also aims to develop self-awareness and self-empowerment, development of the right attitude towards work among officials and employees of the city government in accordance with Republic Act 6713 on the “Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees” aimed at promoting high standard of ethics in public service. (Saul Pa-a/PNA)
