Cagayan town placed under ECQ

By Alec Go

The Cagayan Provincial Information Office (PIO) announced Monday (Aug. 23) that the municipality of Baggao in the province will be placed under 14-day enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).

Baggao municipal government’s Executive Order No. 74-A said the ECQ will take effect from Aug. 24 to Sept. 6 to give way for further implementation of contact tracing, containment, and other necessary measures.

Based on the directive, movement has been limited to work and “accessing goods and services” from allowed establishments.

The establishments that have been given full operational capacity are hospitals, health, emergency and frontline services, and “industries involved in agriculture.” Only government offices providing frontline services will be allowed to open.

Baggao has 335 active COVID-19 cases after recording 36 new cases on Aug. 24.

In an advisory released on Tuesday evening, the Solana local government said the municipality remains under general community quarantine (GCQ) with heightened restrictions, contrary to the initial announcement of the provincial information office.

Meanwhile, the ECQ in Tuguegarao City has been extended until Aug. 28 amid an increasing number of reported COVID-19 cases, and to give way for testing.

The Department of Health (DOH) has reported five Delta variant cases in the region on Aug. 23. – rir
