Calida forgives Trillanes; won’t file libel rap

MANILA — Solicitor General Jose Calida on Tuesday said he will forgive Senator Antonio Trillanes IV who accused him of stealing his amnesty papers and will not sue him for libel.

“He said he won’t apologize. Maybe I will just forgive him. Well, we should forgive those who have sinned against us,” Calida told reporters in a chance interview before the start of the oral arguments on the country’s withdrawal from the International Criminal Court (ICC) at the Supreme Court.

Trillanes earlier claimed Calida stole his amnesty papers after Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana said the top government lawyer called him and inquired about the amnesty papers of the senator.

The defense chief said he merely told the Judge Advocate General to assist Calida.

Calida earlier issued a statement telling the senator to apologize to him or he will file a libel suit. (Benjamin Pulta/PNA)
