ILOILO CITY — The province of Capiz is now equipped with a shared service facility (SFS) for Dairy Milk Processing through the support of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).
DTI Western Visayas regional information officer David Israel Sinay said in a phone interview Monday the Capiz State University (CapSU –Pontevedra Campus is the incorporator for the project.
Sinay said the project would be beneficial to students of schools since it offers agriculture courses, with dairy processing as part of the curriculum.
“They can also get workforce from the community. If they wanted to process their dairy products, then they can have access to the facilities,” he said.
The DTI on May 21 turned over to the university several equipment for the operation of the facility to include among others mobile milking machines, milk cans, milk pasteurizer, freezer, chiller, infrared tableware stabilizer, milk fat analyzer, and manual sealing machine.
Meanwhile, CapSU–Pontevedra Campus Administrator Mae Dumapig said they used to have a dairy processing but the number of milk-producing cows declined.
The National Dairy Authority granted them a loan to enable them to acquire milk-producing cows and revive their dairy projects.
“This SSF Project is a big help to the community. We can help the farmers and the students as well,” she said.
The dairy processing facility is the third SSF that was granted by the DTI to the province of Capiz this year.
The first SSF was the upgrading of bamboo processing in Dumalag town with an estimated cost of PHP3 million and the second was the upgrading of wearables in Dao and estimated budget of PHP1 million.
Next month, DTI is gearing to launch the PHP10-million Innovation Center — the fourth SSF in Capiz this year.
