Car theft ringleader nabbed in Laguna

MANILA- The Philippine National Police Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) on Tuesday announced the arrest of a suspected ringleader of a criminal group that steals cars by luring owners into pawning their vehicles and its registration papers for a sum.

In a statement the PNP HPG said its Special Operations Division, led by Police Insp. Rannie Jose Estilles and Police Insp. Rodolfo Armea IV, arrested Rafaela Anunciacion, 57, of Agoncillo St., Phase 4, Pacita Complex, San Pedro City, Laguna .

Anunciacion was arrested on Aug. 25 at about 5 p.m. at the Shopwise Shopping Mall in San Pedro, following an arrest warrant issued by Judge Arthur Melicor of Valenzuela Regional Trial Court Branch 284, the PNP said.

“The suspect is known to be the leader of the carnapping group behind the Rent-Sangla Scam operating in Metro Manila,Southern Luzon and Central Luzon,” the statement added.

HPG Acting Director Police Chief Supt. Roberto Fajardo reiterated his office’s earlier warning, alerting all concerned agencies and individials “to exercise utmost diligence in preventing carnapping and other similar activities by suspicious individuals.”
