Carlo Paalam clinches silver in Tokyo Olympics

Filipino boxer Carlo Paalam finished strong and clinched another silver medal for the Philippines in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics on Saturday (August 7).

Flyweight Carlo Paalam faced Great Britain’s Galal Yafai at the final round of the men’s flyweight division in the Olympic boxing.

Paalam went down early in the opening round and was given the standing eight count.

Paalam fell to Yafai via a 4-1 split decision, 29-28, 28-29, 29-28, 29-28, 29-28.

The Bukidnon-born boxer, the youngest in the Philippine boxing team at 23 years old, sets the Philippines’ medal tally in the Tokyo Olympics to four, with weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz winning the country’s first Olympic gold medal and fellow boxers Nesthy Petecio and Eumir Marcial. – PTV Sports / CF-rir
