Cavite-wide barangay assembly set on Oct. 8

TRECE MARTIRES CITY, Cavite — Cavite’s 829 barangays are set to hold the “Asembliya sa mga Barangay” (village assemblies) simultaneously on October 8 where barangay leaders and local officials could present their plans, programs, and accomplishments to their constituents.

In an interview with PNA on Tuesday, Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG)-Cavite Director Allan Benitez said the gathering aims to discuss the barangay’s pressing concerns, issues, and clarifications.

Benitez said the barangay leader called for the gathering “as a venue for healthy exchange between the officials and their constituents”.

Political observers here said “the assemblies would provide political dynamism among the villages and communities due to the coming barangay elections.”

Under the Local Government Code, the barangay assembly meets at least twice a year although the days vary this month to discuss the semestral report of the Sangguniang Barangay (village council) on their activities and finances, as well as problems affecting the barangay.

He said the DILG includes in its various programs in maintaining peace and unity and development plans among the communities. The regular village assembly will know the real situation on the ground at the barangay level to help them in planning policies and programs.

He expressed optimism that the assemblies would support the DILG’s “bold step forward” campaign, as captured in their redesigned logo. (PNA)
