CCLEX main bridge deck close to completion

The construction of the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway’s (CCLEX) main bridge deck is drawing to a close, with merely 11 meters left before the gap is filled.

Remaining works on the main bridge are now only composed of two segments, all at Tower 1, and the final closing segment that will connect to Tower 2’s deck.

CCLEX’s main bridge alone is targeted to be finished by the last week of September.

The 8.5-kilometer project is eyed to be substantially completed by December 2021 and will be opened for public use in the first quarter of 2022 using a full electronic toll collection system to ensure a convenient and seamless travel for motorists.

As of July 30, the construction progress of the project stands at 82%.

Be wary of ‘fake’ CCLEX images

Meanwhile, the Cebu City Link Expressway Corporation (CCLEC) warned the public about manipulated images of the CCLEX being shared on social media.

“We know that people are just having fun and sharing this as a joke. We are posting this clarification because some people believed the memes to be true,” the company said in a statement.

“The CCLEX is a monumental undertaking that makes use of global standards and best practices in bridge design and construction technology. The joint venture contractor tapped local and international engineers and construction experts. They have expertise in building more than 600 bridges all over the world. Many have been telling us that the CCLEX is a source of Cebuano pride,” they added.

The P31 billion CCLEX, highlighted by its iconic crosses on top of the twin pylons of the cable-stayed main bridge over the Mactan Channel, is Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation’s (MPTC) first toll road project outside Luzon.

CCLEX has a design speed of 80 kilometers per hour (kph) and a navigational clearance or height of 51 meters to allow large vessels to pass underneath the bridge.

Not only is CCLEX seen to reduce traffic and make traveling more convenient but also spur trade activities and open greater economic opportunities for Cebu and the rest of the Visayas region.

CCLEC is a wholly owned subsidiary of MPTC, the toll road arm of Metro Pacific Investments Corporation (MPIC), a publicly listed infrastructure holding company and a member of the MVP Group of Companies. (PR) -jlo
