The Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) brings back the Performatura: Performance Literature Festival on Nov. 22-24 with the theme “Performatura Pandemic Edition (PPE).”
This event, now virtual, will as usual showcase poetry readings, storytellings, theatrical shows, dance dramas, musical presentations, and spoken word competitions, through Facebook livestream and Zoom under the festival’s director Dr. Vim Nadera, a poet and a performance artist. Kulay Labitigan is this year’s creator of the official poster and video of Performatura 2021.
The word ‘performatura’ is a mashup of the words ‘performance’ and ‘orature’ or oral literature. Orature is a term coined by Ugandan linguist PioZirimu who wanted to raise oral literature to the level of written literature.
Activities
On Nov. 22, dubbed “Araw ni Huseng Batute,” Performatura celebrates the poet par excellence Jose Corazon de Jesus’s 125th birthday with a host of activities and personalities.
CCP Vice President and Artistic Director Chris Millado opens the second day, “Bagong Bonifacio,” on Nov. 23, to immortalize revolutionary hero Andres Bonifacio’s 158th birthday on Nov. 30 with storytelling, book and poetry readings, and other activities.
CCP Board of Trustees Chair Margie Moran Floirendo opens the last day of Performatura on Nov. 24, “Araw ng mga Aklat at Akdang Bayan” at 10:00 a.m. via livestream. Among other activities, the National Book Development Board (NBDB) will inaugurate Book Nook, a project that establishes reading centers for families living in areas where accessibility to books and the internet are limited.
