CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — A police officer in this city died after an apparent accidental firing Tuesday evening.

Police Officer 3 Joseph Marimon accidentally killed himself at around 11 p.m. inside the City Mobile Force Company’s quarters in Camp Maharlika, Brgy. Carmen, said Senior Insp. Mardi Hortillosa, Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (Cocpo) spokesperson.

Marimon’s colleagues heard a loud bang on the building’s second floor seconds before discovering his body slumped on the floor, Hortillosa said.

A forensic team from the regional Philippine National Police (PNP) Crime Laboratory said the police officer succumbed to a lone gunshot wound at the right portion of his forehead exiting at the left.

The death was instantaneous, said team head Dr. Christian Caballes.

Sprawled beside the victim was his service Glock pistol with one fired cartridge.

Hortillosa said the victim was about to wear his uniforn when his gun accidentally went off. (Mark D. Francisco/PNA)
