Cebu City pulls late comeback to edge Caloocan

MANILA — Cebu City Sharks came alive in the final two minutes to shock Caloocan Supremos, 71-70, in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League Datu Cup at the Rizal Memorial College Gymnasium in Davao City on Tuesday night.

In a game that started about two hours late than its supposed tip-off to give way to an event at the said school attended by President Rodrigo R. Duterte, the Sharks rallied from a late six-point deficit to steal the crucial win from the Supremos.

Caloocan thought it already sealed the win after Almond Vosotros buried a huge triple with 2:14 remaining for a 67-61 cushion.

But a split from Will McAloney sparked the game-deciding 10-0 run, which included his eventual game-winner to put Cebu City up for good, 71-67.

Mar Villahermosa canned a triple to cut the lead down to one, but with 0.8 seconds left on the clock, it came to be a bit too late.

Patrick Cabahug made up for a lethargic night from long range with his ageless layups and finished with 22 points alongside two rebounds and one assist for the Sharks, who moved up to 8-11 and are now within a half-game of the Laguna Heroes for eighth place in the Southern Division.

Will McAloney flirted with a double-double after grabbing 17 rebounds and eight points with four assists and two steals.

Vosotros’ 25-point bomb anchored on a 6-of-9 shooting from deep fizzled out as the Supremos fell to 5-13 in the Northern Division.
