Cebu Pacific to increase Manila-Bacolod flights after Boracay closure

BACOLOD CITY — Cebu Pacific will redeploy up to 28 flights weekly for the Manila-Bacolod route after it cancelled Aklan flights due to the six-month closure of Boracay Island starting April 26.

In an interview after a media dinner here Thursday night, Charo Lagamon, Cebu Pacific corporate communication director, said the airline will offer the additional daily round-trip flights from April 26 to October 27.

These trips will boost Cebu Pacific’s current 47 flights weekly from Manila to Bacolod and vice versa, which are part of the 72 flights from Bacolod to four destinations every week. The three other destinations are Cebu, Cagayan de Oro, and Davao.

“We are hoping for additional passengers, especially people, vacationers who will lose their slots in Boracay. We are hoping that this will entice them to visit other destinations in the country,” Lagamon said.

She added that passengers booked for Caticlan and Kalibo flights affected by Boracay’s closure can reroute to other destinations.

“Perhaps they will choose Bacolod instead, sight-see here and visit the neighboring cities and beaches,” Lagamon said.

A daily round trip will be redeployed for the Manila-Bacolod route from April 26 to Oct. 27, except on May 1-4.

Starting June 26, except on July 8-22, another daily round trip will be added until October 27. There will be no additional flight on Mondays from July 8 to 22.

During Boracay’s closure period, Cebu Pacific will operate one flight daily each for Manila-Kalibo-Manila, Manila-Caticlan-Manila and Cebu-Caticlan-Cebu routes to serve local residents and ensure the continuity of commerce in Northern Panay. (PNA)
