Cebu under MECQ, Delta case toll at 32

The entire Cebu island has been placed under 15-day modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) starting August 1 due to Delta variant threat.

Visayas Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) COVID-19 chief Mel Feliciano said the quarantine escalation, which is subject to appeal, is “one measure to stop the spread to some other areas” due to Delta detection in Cebu.

Cebu City has six Delta cases, Samboan and Cordova have two cases each, Mandaue City has three, and Lapu-Lapu City has 19.

So we really need to be very cautious,” Feliciano said.

Local government units have augmented their health facility capacity amid an increasing number of cases. Many of their residents have also flocked to vaccination sites to secure a jab.

Authorities reminded the public to register online and comply with the set schedule to prevent crowding in vaccination sites. They also urged the public to observe health standards due to the highly transmissible Delta variant.  – Report from John Aroa/AG-rir
