CHED drafts guidelines for collegiate athletic trainings

The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) has drafted the guidelines for collegiate athletic trainings in higher education institutions (HEIs).

According to CHED Chairman Prospero De Vera, complying with the health protocols is part of the guidelines to ensure the safety of student-athletes. These include providing a disinfection station, wearing of face masks for trainers, and keeping physical distance.
CHED Chairman De Vera disclosed that while athletes are not required to undergo swab testing, they will undergo a 14-day quarantine before proceeding to their training.

The HEIs must submit a certificate of compliance and the list of the names of student-athletes 7 days before training.
CHED pointed out that only institutions that comply with the guidelines will be allowed to conduct trainings.

“We have to show that protocols can be observed, we have to show that the health of the athletes are protected then if we do a good job I think it will be much easier to go to the IATF and say that “nag-practice na kami, maganda yung aming ginawa, nagtulong-tulong kami (we have practiced, what we did was appropriate, we have helped each other), we are now planning to open tournaments.”

The commission has yet to submit the guidelines to the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) for approval.
