Chinese POGO workers are possible to be deported

The Chinese nationals working in Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO) firms are possible to be deported after the government of China warned them of canceling their passports if found involved in illegal activities.

According to the Bureau of Immigration (BI) Spokesperson Dana Sandoval, if China proceeds with its warning, a mass deportation of Chinese POGO workers is coming sooner than later. Sandoval said that if their passports are canceled, they are considered “undocumented aliens.”

The BI continues in communicating with the Chinese embassy to confirm possible action by the Chinese government.

The BI also said this action is not by the Chinese government alone, but also other by other countries, including the Philippines to expedite or facilitate the deportation process.

According to the data of the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR), there are 91,000 foreign POGO workers in the Philippines, most of whom are Chinese. Only 29,000 are Filipinos.
