DUMAGUETE CITY — Some 10,000 children in Dumaguete City, aged three to 12 years, will be treated to a sumptuous meal daily during the city government’s annual Share-A-Meal program starting next week.

Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo said Thursday he has directed the city sports and development office to devise a scheme, where the children will have to get to know one another and release their energies through a friendly competition dubbed “children’s games.”

Since 10,000 is a big number, Remollo thought of clustering the barangays, so in one day, more than 3,000 can be accommodated at the Dumaguete City High School gymnasium in Barangay Calindagan.

The children’s games and Share-A-Meal are scheduled on Dec. 15, 16, and 22.

Remollo confirmed that the city government has allocated almost PHP3 million for the project, PHP1 million of which comes from the Philippine Sports Commission, to help defray expenses for the technical personnel who will take charge of the children’s games.

City sports and youth development officer, Ike Xavier Villaflores, disclosed the children will be competing with one another in a number of parlor games, such as sack race, “paligid” (tire) relay, takarang (stilts), and ball relay, so they will enjoy the games and the sumptuous meal later with mascots from popular fast food chains.
