CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga — Classes on Thursday were suspended in most parts of Central Luzon due to threats posed by Typhoon “Ompong” (international name Mangkhut) in the region.
In Aurora province, classes in all levels in both public and private schools, as well as work in all government and private offices, were suspended on Thursday and Friday to ensure public welfare and the safety of students and residents.
Local government officials in the provinces of Pampanga, Zambales, Nueva Ecija also declared suspension of classes in all levels for both public and private schools, as they advised their constituents to stay safe and take precautionary measures.
In the two highly-urbanized cities of Angeles and Olongapo, suspension of classes in all levels in public and private were likewise declared.
Zambales Governor Amor Deloso and Angeles City Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan even extended the suspension of classes to Friday in anticipation of the adverse effects that might be brought about by typhoon Ompong.
Localized suspension of classes, on the other hand, was declared in the provinces of Bulacan and Tarlac.
In Bulacan, classes were suspended in all levels for both public and private schools in the cities of Malolos and Meycauayan; and in the municipalities of Obando, Marilao, Baliwag, and Calumpit.
In Tarlac, the suspension of classes in all levels, both in public and private schools were declared in the towns of Paniqui, Capas, Concepcion, Ramos, La Paz, and Bamban, as well as in Tarlac City.
Meanwhile, no suspension of classes has been declared in the province of Bataan as 7 a.m. on Thursday.
Based on the latest regional weather forecast issued by the state weather bureau, the seven provinces in the region will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies, with isolated rain showers and thunderstorms throughout the day. ( Zorayda Tecson/PNA)
