Classes suspended in some Mindanao areas due to bad weather

COTABATO CITY – The city administration here and some other local government units in Mindanao suspended classes on Friday due to inclement weather.

“In view of the weather condition prevailing in Cotabato City, classes in the elementary, high school, and college levels are hereby suspended today August 17, 2018,” an advisory from Mayor Frances Cynthia Guiani–Sayadi said.

An updated advisory from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration for Mindanao indicated that heavy rains with lightning and strong winds due to thunderstorms are being experienced over portions of Surigao del Sur, Maguindanao, North Cotabato, Lanao del Sur, Misamis Occidental, and Zamboanga del Sur.

Mayor Eliseo Garcesa Jr. of Pigcawayan, North Cotabato, also declared the suspension of classes in the pre-school, elementary and high school levels.

“Gloomy climate had prevailed in Pigcawayan since last night. I am suspending classes for the safety of the kids,” Garcesa said over a local radio station.

Classes have likewise been suspended in Midsayap, North Cotabato, and Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao, due to heavy rains. (Noel Punzalan/PNA)
