Vacancies await thousands of jobseekers in Iloilo City Labor Day fair

ILOILO CITY — Applicants during the Labor Day job and livelihood fair in Iloilo City are encouraged to be “presentable” and should “know how to sell themselves”, as thousands of vacancies await successful seekers.

Regional Director for Western Visayas Cyril Ticao on Monday said pre-registration is ongoing at the regional office of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE). Currently more than 300 interested applicants have already registered.

“We urge them to pre-register so when they arrive they can just proceed directly to apply. They no longer have to queue up,” Ticao said during a press conference.

As of April 28, there were already more or less 22,000 vacancies for overseas job placement and 5,000 for local vacancies.

Assistant Regional Director Ma. Victoria G. Mondragon said the top vacancies per industry came from the administrative and support service; wholesale and retail trade; hotels and restaurants; manufacturing; construction; transport, storage, and communications and real estate, renting and business activities.

Specifically, the top vacant positions are technical support/customer service representatives for business process outsourcing (BPO), service crew for hotels and accommodations and registered nurses for BPO.

For the overseas placement, notable vacancies are registered nurses, carpenters, farmers, masons, drivers, engineers, teachers, welders and waiters.

The top 10 countries with highest employment opportunities are Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, New Zealand, Qatar, Hong Kong, Kuwait, Japan, Singapore, Germany, Malaysia, and Bahrain.

“It must be noted that for countries such as New Zealand and Japan, they have the most demand for farmers and construction-related,” she said.

The one-day job fair will be held at Robinsons Place Jaro. The registration will start at 8:30 a.m. and the job fair will start as soon as the mall opens.

“We are inviting our new graduates to come and join the job fair,” she said.

During the activity, the Professional Regulation Commission, the Social Security System, the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation, the Home Mutual Development Fund (Pag-IBIG) and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority will also be around to provide some of the documents that they need.

Ticao advised that applicants bring with them their credentials, their transcript of records if available and resume among others.

He added that they can apply in as many agencies that they wanted to; hence it is advised that they bring with them more copies of their application forms.

Meanwhile, a special lane will also be made available for persons with disabilities and members of the Pantawid Pamilya Pilipino Program (4Ps).

Also on the same day, DOLE has lined up other activities such as the livelihood fair, career coaching and employment forum.
