Cloudiness, rain likely till Saturday afternoon

MANILA, Aug. 4 – Western Visayas and Negros Island regions as well as Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, Batangas, Mindoro and Palawan provinces will experience cloudy skies with light to moderate rains due to the southwest monsoon or ‘habagat,’ and possible occasionally heavy rains and gusty winds due to thunderstorms, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Friday.

In its 24-hour forecast released Friday afternoon, PAGASA also said that partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms would prevail over Metro Manila and rest of the country.

‘Habagat’ is affecting western sections of Luzon and the Visayas, noted PAGASA.

PAGASA said moderate to occasionally strong winds blowing from the southwest would prevail over northern and western sections of Luzon.

Coastal waters there would be moderate to occasionally rough, noted PAGASA.

“Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate coming from the south to southwest with slight to moderate seas,” PAGASA said.

In its forecast, PAGASA located the typhoon with international name ‘Noru’ at some 1,290 km northeast of extreme Northern Luzon – still outside Philippine Area of Responsibility.

‘Noru’ packed maximum sustained winds of 150 kph and gustiness of up to 185 kph, said PAGASA.

PAGASA said ‘Noru’ is almost stationary. (PNA)
