Coast Guard District transfers to Dumaguete

DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental — The office of the Philippine Coast Guard District Southern Visayas is set to transfer its base to Dumaguete City next month.

Lt. Junior Grade Donna Liza Ramacho, chief of the Coast Guard-Negros Oriental, said Thursday the CGD-Southern Visayas will be co-located with her office at the Dumaguete port once the transfer is completed.

Ramacho said the transfer of the office includes manpower and logistics, such as floating assets.

“Those under the Coast Guard Southern Visayas (district) are Negros Oriental, Siquijor, and Negros Occidental,” she said.

Ramacho explained that during the time of the Negros Island Region (NIR), the CG-Southern Visayas district was created and was temporarily based in Bacolod City, Negros Occidental.

But she said when the NIR was dissolved under the administration of President Rodrigo Duterte, the CG-Southern Visayas district was retained.

“But Southern Visayas strategically is in Negros Oriental, that is why the district office is set for relocation to Dumaguete,” she added. (Mary Judaline Partlow/PNA)
