PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Palawan — The Cuyo Coast Guard has turned over to the police a kilogram of suspected cocaine wrapped in a transparent plastic which was washed ashore on the coastline of this island municipality in this province.

The alleged cocaine stash was discovered by municipal police and coast guard personnel in Cuyo on May 3.

Cuyo Coast Guard Station (CCGS) commander, Ensign Merham Sajarani, on Monday refused to give the exact location where it was found, saying the Palawan Provincial Police Office (PPO) and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) have to confirm first if it is indeed cocaine.

“We cannot say where it was exactly found yet. I hope you all understand that it has not been confirmed if the white powdery substance is really cocaine,” Sajarani said.

However, the plastic’s content turned positive for containing an illegal substance after their K9 dog worked on it.

The recovered powder has been turned over to the Cuyo police for a series of laboratory exams and proper disposition.

Sajarani said it was reported to the town police that requested for “Beasy,” their narcotics working K9 dog’s help.

“There was no owner since it was found washed ashore. We’ve turned it over to the police, and they’ll be the one to decide what to do with it,” he said. (Celeste Anna Formoso/PNA)
