ZAMBOANGA CITY–The Philippine Coastguard (PCG) has adopted security measures in connection with the observance of the All Saints and All Souls Days.
Lt. Commander Noriel Ramos, Zamboanga PCG Station commander, on Saturday said the security measures dubbed as “Operations (Oplan) Undas” aims to ensure the safety of travellers to and from the province to visit their departed loved ones.
Ramos said Oplan Undas also aims to prevent the entry of lawless elements, who have plans to disturb the observance of the All Saints and All Souls Days.
Part of the security plan, he said, is the deployment of additional personnel as well as the deployment of K9 units.
“We cannot be complacent especially the terrorist threats remains that is why we adopted security measures ensure the protection of the people especially during the Undas,” he said.
The port of Zamboanga serves thousands of passenger daily since it caters to passenger and cargo ferries from the nearby areas in the region, including three provinces in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM).
“Our port security includes all aspects like passenger and cargo inspections, profiling and intelligence gathering against suspected terrorists, explosives and other contraband items in transit using seacrafts,” Ramos said.
He urged the public to immediately report to them should they happen to observe suspicious personalities. (Teofilo Garcia, Jr/PNA)
