Comelec gun ban, checkpoints end Monday midnight

MANILA — The ban on carrying of firearms is lifted Monday midnight, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said.

This as the election period in connection with the just concluded May 14, 2018 barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections officially ends on May 21.

“Pursuant to Comelec Resolution No. 10197, the ban on bearing, carrying and transporting of firearms and other deadly weapons and the availment or engagement of the services of security personnel or bodyguards is consequently lifted by 12 midnight,” said the Comelec in a statement issued Monday afternoon.

It noted that the same would apply with Comelec checkpoints.

“Comelec checkpoints likewise cease operations at 12 midnight today (Monday),” it added.

The poll body reminded all individuals who have filed a Certificate of Candidacy (COC) to file their Statement of Contributions and Expenses (SOCE) on or before June 13, 2018.

“Win or lose, all candidates must file SOCE within 30 days after the day of the elections in accordance with Chapter IV, Section 16 to 18 of Resolution No. 10209,” it said.

The SOCE forms are available for the download at the official COMELEC website, www.comelec.gov.ph.

Meanwhile, the Comelec reported that its field officials personally delivered cash cards of the Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) to the teachers, who did poll duties in the recent elections, wherever they may be.

“For Region 3, Election Officers (EOs) of Pampanga and Zambales traveled to the location where DepEd personnel are attending a seminar in order to swiftly distribute the cash cards,” it said.

“Aurora EOs, meanwhile, distributed the cash cards door-to-door. Cash card help desks were also set up for easy and efficient distribution,” the Comelec said. (PNA)
