Comelec partners with PTV, KBP for voter education

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has partnered with People’s Television (PTV) and the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) for a strengthened voter education for the upcoming national and local elections.

The memorandum of agreement between Comelec and PTV was signed by Comelec Chairperson Saidamen Pangarungan, Commissioner Aimee Ferolino, and PTV Head Executive Assistant Gerardo Ledonio III, and Technical Assistant for Administration and Finance Raymond Sanchez.

Included in the agreement is the airing of election-related videos to further inform the public about their candidates and the election process.

PTV has been airing its “Know Your Candidates” which is an interview with candidates, including those at the local level. The network is also monitoring pre and post-election updates under “Hatol ng Bayan 2022.”

“For the information of everyone, we will start airing election-related news [on] May 7, 8 ,9 , 10, 11. Walang tulugan ‘to para sa bayan,” Ledonio said.

The Comelec has reiterated the significance of media including government channels in battling disinformation.

“The delivery of free accurate, truthful information is highly needed to combat fake and misleading information. PTV-4 in partnership with Comelec at this juncture agreed to deliver quality television shows that will provide the electorate more opportunity to create an informed choice,” Pangarungan said.

“We thank PTV-4 for this service to our nation as this election will decide the destiny of our democracy. The Comelec looks at the media as a whole… Magtulungan po tayong lahat para sa matagumpay na election,” he added.

Meanwhile, Comelec’s agreement with the KBP for the upcoming Pilipinas Forum 2022 in exchange of the canceled town hall debates was also signed. .— Report from Karen Joyce Villanda/ KC-ag
