Comelec revises calendar for barangay, SK polls

MANILA — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Tuesday announced changes in its calendar of activities in connection with the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections to give aspirants ample time to prepare should the polls push through on October 23.

Comelec Spokesperson James Jimenez noted that among the changes is the moving of the start of the election period from September 23 to October 1, which will last until October 30.

“In order to give the public more time to prepare for participation in the #BSKE2017, should the elections not be postponed, the Commission en Banc today (Tuesday) approved the following changes in the implementation calendar,” he said in a statement.

Likewise, the filing of Certificates of Candidacy (COCs) will now be from October 5 to October 11.

The campaign period will be from October 12 to October 22.

“In light of these changes, please note that the effectivity of various election prohibitions — particularly the gun ban — will likewise be moved. It will commence on October 1, 2017, and not on September 23, 2017 as indicated previously,” Jimenez said.

On the other hand, the period for the filing of applications for exemption from the gun ban, will begin on September 21. (PNA)
