Comelec seeking PRRD approval to declare May 9 as special non-working holiday

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is set to request President Rodrigo Duterte to declare May 9, 2022, as a nationwide special non-working holiday for the conduct of the local and national elections.

Under resolution No. 10784 dated April 27, 2022, the Comelec noted that the declaration of a holiday will provide registered voters “the fullest opportunity to participate in the said election and exercise their right to vote.”

The resolution was signed by Comelec Chairperson Saidamen Pangarungan and Commissioners Socorro Inting, Aimee Ferolino, Aimee Torrefranca-Neri, Marlon Casquejo, Rey Bulay, and George Garcia.

Malacañang said in a briefing on Wednesday noon that the Malacañang Records Office has not yet released a decision declaring May 9 as a holiday. The same holds for May 3 which will mark the celebration of Eid’l Fitr. AG-bny
