Comelec sets special voter’s registration in Marawi

MANILA — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Friday said that the special voter registration for Marawi City has been set next month.

According Comelec Resolution No. 10426 dated Sept. 27, 2018, the registration in the war-torn city will be held from October 1 to October 15, 2018.

With this, the poll body reminded that applications for registration, transfer/transfer with reactivation, reactivation, change/correction of entries and inclusion/reinstatement of records in the voter should be personally filed at the Office of the Election Officer (OEO).

The special registration will be held for qualified voters to be able to participate in the May 2019 midterm polls and also in the forthcoming plebiscite to create the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) early next year.

“In conducting the special registration, the Comelec seeks to enfranchise qualified voters in the upcoming plebiscite for the ratification of R.A. 11054 entitled ‘Organic law for the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao’ on January 21, 2019, as well as the May 13, 2019 National and Local Elections (NLE),” the Comelec said in a statement.

The poll body noted that the voters who are already registered as of the May 9, 2016 NLE and those who registered last Nov. 7, 2016 to April 29, 2017 need not register again.

The system of continuing registration resumed in July 2, 2018 and will run until Sept. 29, 2018 nationwide except for Marawi City.

The city was not included in the nationwide registration due to the prevailing condition in the area.

Marawi City was the battleground during the conflict between government forces and Maute terrorist group last year. (PNA)
