Comelec welcomes Inting appointment as new commissioner

MANILA — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) welcomed the appointment of Court of Appeals (CA) Justice Socorro Inting as its new commissioner.

In a statement Thursday, Comelec Spokesperson James Jimenez said he believes the experience of the newly-designated poll official would be an asset to the Commission.

“Justice Inting’s long experience in the judiciary will be an invaluable asset to the Commission, as it buckles down to the work of both ensuring the success of the 2018 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections and preparing for the rapidly approaching 2019 National and Local Elections,” he said.

Inting will replace former commissioner Arthur Lim who retired in February.

With Inting’s appointment, the Commission en banc will now be composed of five officials — acting Chair Al Parreño and Commissioners Luie Tito Guia, Rowena Guanzon, and Sheriff Abas.

On Tuesday, President Rodrigo R. Duterte signed Inting’s appointment as Comelec commissioner. (PNA)
